Not many of you know, but October in the social worker's life is the month where we campaign and try to get the word across about child abuse.
This month we wear purple : purple bracelets, purples ribbons, purple clothes etc. In my region we are asking schools to participate in wearing purple on certain days and send out information to parents and children about the importance of reporting and speaking up about child abuse and neglect.
Everyone of us has been across a situation where we though .. ummm this is not okay, this shouldn't be happening. But did you do something about it? Did you even know what to do about it? Did you know that some social workers are there to help out in these situation and make sure these kid's rights are heard?
In Ottawa last year the Chilcren's Aid Society did Kareoke in a public mall inviting people by singning and "speaking up", everywhere in Ontario social workers and trying hard to get the word across.
I invite you to do something, wear purple, help out a child in need, the nly thing i'm asking of you is NOT TO KEEP SILENT, SPEAK UP!
